Skate Regina's 16 year old Garrett Gosselin could feel the love of
spectators on Valentine's Day in Calgary. He captured second place on the
weekend for Novice men at Skate Canada's Junior National figure skating
championships. With a score of 104.55 points, he improved his personal best
by nearly 10 points.
His two solid performances also earned him one of the prized national
Possibility Awards for combined technical and artistic excellence. The
Award Panel described 2009 as a "breakthrough year" for Gosselin after he
left a lasting impression on the audience and raised the creative bar for
the sport. This follows three consecutive years of winning the Most
Artistic Performance Award at the Skate Saskatchewan Provincial
Championships.
The accompanying Possibility Award Bursary will help Gosselin with his
summer plans to attend the Mariposa National Training Centre in Barrie,
Ontario where he will train with elite national level skaters in the Junior
and Senior ranks.
